Trailblazing designer and winner of last year’s “Emerging Talent’ award at the Dubai Fashion Week, Kalid Swaid is preparing to unleash another of his signature lines at this year’s much anticipated fashion week. Saudi-born and bred Kalid comes with impeccable fashion pedigree, despite hailing from a deeply conservative country: he holds degrees from the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and from Polimoda in Florence, Italy. The creative dynamo was a finalist on the hit reality television program “Mission Fashion 2007” televised on LBC, where his fashion expressions were touted as “extraordinary and unique” for the otherwise conservative region. As mentioned above, Kalid Swaid was the 2010 winner of the Dubai Fashion Week ‘Emerging Talent’ award and received industry wide acclaim for his unique collection. Kalid’s Fall 2010 collection was also featured on the Bahrain Fashion Week 2010 campaign.
Kalid is collaborating with production house, S.T Fashion House to launch the new fashion line. Based in the Middle East since 1971, and a true pioneer in the region, the S.T. Fashion House boasts a factory unit with a highly specialized skilled production team. For decades they have been producing designs for high profile clients by creating pieces, which fuse a “prestigious past” with a “visionary sprit of the future.”
Kalid’s and S.T Fashion House’s new fashion line is called ‘Zori’ and is primed for release during this year’s Dubai Fashion Week. Kalid has a solid following of both local and expat customers as part of his established reputation for quality in design, beauty, function, form, and elegance and there is great anticipation within his fan base for Zori. “The collection is an elegant, playful and youthful couture line,” remarks Kalid, “I want to showcase the value of cooling colours and innovative combination of beadwork, and fabrics of the highest quality. The collection will be using experimental techniques under the guided lines of elegance and whimsical femininity.”
Only the creator and artist can best describe the Zori woman: “If she’s playful, it’s her. If she’s young, in any way, it’s her. If she moves with sensuality, it’s her,” explains Kalid, “Elegant in every way and can’t help but express herself through what she wears. Always making an impression wherever she shows up, the Zori woman is Unique and her style is based on her unique point of view.”
With the launch of Zori Couture, Kalid’s goal is to redefine Middle East fashion through innovation, the elevation of Couture to a new level of Function, Style, and Excitement while maintaining the elegance the people of this region has been known for throughout history.
